SUMMER OF LOVE 4 – LOVE OVERCOMES ALL ENEMIES

Download and Listen

I. A Line is Being Drawn Between the Loving and the Loveless.
There exists a separation between believers and unbelievers.
Between those who believe there is a growing separation:
Is your love is getting hotter or growing colder. Mt. 24:12

II. Understanding and Overcoming the Enemies of Love.

The First Enemy of Love is Unresolved Offenses. Mt. 24:9-12
When difficulties and disappointments occur we feel unloved.
When we feel unloved we drift toward into a lawless heart.
The cycle continues until we find we’ve lost our first love.

The Second Enemy of Love is Self-Centeredness. 2 Tim. 3:1-6
When we exalt ourselves over God and others, love is distorted.
Even if we maintain religious appearance we have no power.
God says to withdraw from those who live for themselves. Why?

The Third Enemy of Love is Tormenting Fear. 1 John 4:17-19
When we are tormented by fear we are incapable of loving.
All fear ultimately springs from the fear of death and judgment.
God’s Love eradicates fear from our lives.

III. How to Overcome the Enemies of Love by Loving God and Others.

We must first remove all barriers and receive the Love of God.
God’s love heals us and empowers us to begin to love. Vs.19
As we abide in God’s love, love becomes perfected in us. 16

We must also connect God’s love for us and our love for others. Vs.20
Our love for others objectifies the trueness of our love for God.
What hinders us from demonstrating God’s love by serving others?

We must defy the forces of evil that seek to imprison us in lovelessness.
We must discern the forces of evil (vs.1-4) and stand for Love.
We must PERFECT love to show the Glory of Jesus in this world.

SUMMER OF LOVE 3 – THE TRIUMPANT NATURE OF LOVE

I. The Body of Christ is Rising Up in an Unprecedented Way.
The Call in Nashville gathered 70k people in prayer.
The Summer of Love was repeatedly mentioned.
The Greatest Commandment: is Love. Matt. 22:34-40

II. Understanding the Triumphant Nature of Love. I Cor. 13:1-13

Love is a matter of the heart expressed in outward actions.
It’s not enough to talk eloquently about love;
Or to have understanding of the mysteries of love.
Even a sacrificial act is not a guarantee that love is real.

What Love is NOT: Envious, Self-exalting, Proud, Rude, Selfish,
Irritable, Negative, Unrighteous
What Love IS: Perseveringly Kind, Aligned with Truth,
Covers Wrong, Trusting, Hopeful, Enduring, Triumphant

Love is the greatest attribute of God and of Humanity. 1Jn,4:7-8
God’s purpose is to bring us into the perfection of Love.
As we mature, we exchange selfishness for love.
Our destiny is to know and express love forever.

III. How to Cultivate the Triumphant Nature of Love. Rom. 5:1-5

Having peace with God we can rejoice in the hope of His glory.
With my destiny secure, I no longer need to self-protect.
I am free to lay my life down for God and for others.

We now have grace to transform an enemy of Love: Tribulation.
Because of offenses the love of many fails. Mt. 24:10-12
Trials produce selfish survival responses against love.

As we rejoice in tribulation, we are empowered to persevere.
As we persevere we cultivate godly character and hope.
Transforming tribulation into hope releases LOVE in us.
